The Music Department at West Park School:

The music department at West Park School is a vibrant and progressive hub which encourages pupils to achieve and succeed. It features a class set of Apple Mac computers as well as a range of instruments and large, spacious classrooms. As a teacher of music, a successful candidate will fully integrate into both the music department and school life. They will need to be an enthusiastic teacher who can inspire pupils and help them to enjoy the subject. The candidate will also be involved with the general running and maintaining of the music department. Successful candidates will need to have a good working knowledge of the Music GSCE specification and course as well as some experience with music editing and creation software.

Specific Teacher Responsibilities:

  • Support the Head of Department in the development of an effective strategy to develop outstanding practice within Music.
  • Use current Music intervention programmes for your own classes that close the gap for pupils who may not be reaching or exceeding national expectations, particularly for vulnerable groups such as Pupil Premium pupils.
  • Ensure consistent application of the School's chosen approach to assessment for Music groups, tracking pupil progress and securing understanding in other staff of their accountability for every individual's progress.
  • Lead the promotion and development of pupils' character through Music.
  • Monitor provision across their Music classes, informing the Head of Department of areas of development, contributing to the departmental action planning and SEF.
  • Demonstrate how effective provision for Music can enhance pupil learning and outcomes.
  • Research and develop new ideas, resources, units of work to disseminate within the department, looking for transferability across subjects. Produce high quality lesson plans and other exemplars as required.
  • Use data to inform learning and teaching within their area as appropriate, ensuring that lessons are well differentiated, providing for all individual pupil needs.
  • Model best practice in effective use of pupil performance data, pupil target setting, marking and classroom intervention as appropriate.
  • Demonstrate the use of new technologies to enhance the learning process within the Music department.
  • Support the transition process between Key Stages within Music.
  • Promote pedagogy that engages and enthuses learners.
  • Carry out the role of a form tutor.
  • Play a full role in the School's enrichment programme and support the extended learning programme including visits relating to their specialist area.
  • Recognise and reward pupils making good progress.
