Care and Guidance

The Pastoral System

When pupils arrive at West Park from primary school much discussion has been held with their class teacher in the primary school about their ability and progress. On the basis of this information pupils are placed in tutor groups of varying ability from all our partner primary schools.

The group usually stays together until the end of Year 11. This group is cared for by a Form Tutor. The Head of Year and Assistant Head of Year have overall responsibility for the tutor groups in a particular year.

Parents are encouraged to contact the school whenever they wish to and particularly if they are worried about anything. If pupils are to gain maximum benefit from their education at West Park it is important for us all to communicate regularly and share our concerns, worries and problems. Young people may experience many difficulties as they develop into adults. West Park not only has experienced staff but also receives the support of specialist staff from outside who can provide help, support and advice with problems of an emotional, social or behavioural nature.

We encourage all our pupils to treat each other with respect and we reinforce this in lessons and assemblies.
